I visited New York Spa & Sauna during a Thanksgiving trip to NYC and made it a point to stop by. Coming from my Times Square hotel, I took the 7 express train followed by a taxi, which dropped me right at the front door.
Upon entering, I found a designated area for shoes and socks near the entrance. For $35 (the price has now gone up to $40), I purchased a spa pass, received two small towels, and picked up my clothing for the co-ed areas. Note: If you’re new to Korean spas, be aware that nudity is required in the gender-specific wet areas.
Heading to the lower level, I easily located the men’s wet area. After finding my locker, I got undressed, showered, and began my spa experience.
Feedback
1. Temperature Adjustments Needed: The “lukewarm” pool was 105–106°F, while the “hot” pool was 107°F. It would be better if the lukewarm pool were closer to its name.
2. Safety Concerns: The railing for the steps to the cold pool and upper level was duct-taped and felt very loose. Be cautious when using it!
3. Towel Size: Both towels provided were small. Having at least one full-size towel would improve the experience. Bring your own if possible.
4. Steam Room Caution: Be careful where you sit. The left side is near the steam vent, and when it activates, it can burn if you’re too close.
What I Loved
1. Great Community Atmosphere: The vibe was welcoming, and it seemed like everyone respected the space.
2. Polite Guests: I didn’t encounter anyone rude, which made the experience even more relaxing.
3. Affordable Price: At $35, the price felt just right for the amenities.
4. Fantastic Sauna: The sauna was well-maintained and an absolute highlight of my visit.
Overall, New York Spa & Sauna provided a relaxing and fun experience with a few minor improvements that could make it even better. If you’re in the area, it’s worth a visit—just come prepared with your own towel and a little extra caution!
Probably my favorite go-to K spa in NYC. No frills, very authentic, kinda rough around the edges, but very affordable and it gets the job done. If you get a scrub or massage, make sure you bring cash to tip the guy – the first time I had a scrub I didnt have cash – I said I’d go to the ATM on the way out, but he wasn’t having it. A tip goes a long way with the reception too. Cold plunge could be a bit cooler, but overall this is a great spot.
